Wolverines top Knights, maintain unblemished record

Polk County’s girls basketball team continued the program’s best start in 17 years Friday, downing North Henderson 59-37 in the opening round of the Knights Christmas Tournament.

The Wolverines improved to 9-0 with the win. It’s the best start for a Polk County team since the 2007-08 squad opened the season 12-0 before dropping an overtime decision to Mountain Heritage.

Polk County will be back in action Saturday, facing Travelers Rest (S.C.) in a 2:45 p.m. game to be played at Apple Valley Middle School.

Polk County kept North Henderson (1-9) in check in the first half, building a 29-8 lead at intermission, to take command of the matchup.

Kylie Lewis had 16 points to lead the Wolverines, with Mia Bradley scoring 12 and Kiera Littlejohn adding 10. Bailey Staton had six points and Reeve Carroll added five.

Jayden Duncan contributed four points, with Charley Dusenbury scoring three, Jeri Allen adding two and Sofie Abrahamsen finishing with one.
