Bailey Staton scored 40 points for the second consecutive game as Polk County defeated Madison 70-36 in Tuesday’s Western Highlands Conference girls basketball game in Marshall.
Staton matched the school single-game scoring record she set Friday against Bessemer City. Her seven 3-pointers also tied a school record she owns.
The Wolverines (11-0, 3-0 WHC) led 35-20 at halftime and pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Patriots 35-16 over the final two quarters.

Amiyah Waters added 12 points for Polk County. Reeve Carroll finished with nine, Honesty Jackson scored five and Sofie Abrahamsen and Amber Chupp each added two. Carroll added five steals, four rebounds and three assists while Staton had three assists and three steals and Waters had four steals, three rebounds and three blocked shots.
Madison fell to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Polk County returns home Thursday to face R-S Central in a non-conference game.
