Polk County Middle's tali Thompson leads a fast break earlier this season

Wolverines’ offensive focus pays off with win over Knights

Polk County Middle raced to a big halftime lead Thursday en route to a 44-27 victory over Apple Valley in Blue Ridge Conference girls basketball action in Hendersonville.

The Wolverines (5-1) rebounded from Tuesday’s loss to Rugby with one of their best offensive performanaces of the season. Polk led 22-9 at halftime and never let the lead drop below single digits in the second half.

“I feel like we stepped up our offensive game,” said Polk Middle head coach Michelle Fagan. “We were more patient on offense, did a great job of moving the ball and finding the open teammate.

“We have really focused on finishing around the rim and we benefitted from that improvement tonight.”

Mia Bradley had 14 points for Polk Middle, with Kylie Lewis adding 13. Gavionna Carson had seven points, with Bailey Staton scoring six and Charley Dusenbury scoring four.

Polk Middle returns home Monday to host Hendersonville Middle at 4:30 p.m.
