Polk County’s girls basketball team completed a successful season-opening visit to South Carolina on Tuesday, winning the Turkey Shootout at Chesnee with a 35-33 victory over York (S.C.).

The Wolverines (2-0) trailed early in the first period, but took their first lead at 7-6 and kept the advantage in the defensive battle. Polk led by five at halftime and by six entering the final period.

Olivia Overholt had 16 points to lead Polk County, with Tori Thompson scoring seven and Kiera Littlejohn adding six.

Mia Bradley finished with three points, with Kinsley Huskey scoring two and Kylie Lewis adding a point.

The Wolverines will be back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Piedmont Community Charter for a non-conference clash slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
