Wolverines fall to Mitchell in WHC tourney semifinals

Mitchell built a 22-point halftime lead Tuesday and went on to top Polk County 77-40 in the semifinals of the Western Highlands Conference girls basketball tournament at Mountain Heritage High School.

Mitchell improved to 17-5 with the win, with Polk County falling to 15-8.

Olivia Overholt had 18 points to lead Polk County, with Kristen Hall scoring 10. Sara Muse added six points, with Tori Thompson and Kaylin Jenkins each scoring three. Marissa Twitty added two points.

The Wolverines are expected to earn an at-large bid to the state 1A playoffs when pairings are announced on Saturday. The first round of the state playoffs is slated for Feb. 25.
