Polk County's Bailey Staton led the Wolverines in scoring at 20.1 points per game

Staton earns spot on NCBCA All-District squad

Polk County sophomore Bailey Staton has been named a third-team All-District selection by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.

Staton joined 14 other players honored in District 12, which includes all of Western North Carolina.

Staton averaged 20.1 points and 3.9 assists per game this season in helping lead Polk County to a 16-11 record. She set a school record with 59 3-pointers and finished the season with 975 career points, closing in on the 1,000-point mark.

Rosman’s Alissa Cheek was named the District 12 Player of the Year, joined on the first team by Pisgah’s Dot Mills, A.C. Reynolds’ Julie Janus and Cherokee’s Whitney Rogers and Dvdya Swimmer.

The second team includes Reynolds’ Peyton Harvey, Mountain Heritage’s Keira Wilson, Rosman’s Lexi Powell, West Henderson’s Jazz Wilson and Hiwassee Dam’s Olivia McNabb.

Joining Staton on the third team were Robbinsville’s Aubrie Wachacha, Hayesville’s Ava Shook, Mountain Heritage’s Lilly Neill and Franklin’s Cali Queen.
