Polk County Middle’s Mia Bradley fires a jump shot during the first half of Monday’s game.

Hendersonville Middle raced to a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter Monday and claimed a 31-11 victory over Polk County Middle in girls basketball action at Polk Middle.

The Bearcats improved to 3-0 in Blue Ridge Conference play. Polk Middle dropped to 0-3.

Sarah Gray snapped the scoring drought with a basket at the 4:44 mark of the second period. The Wolverines continued to battle hard and closed the first half with a steal and layup by Mia Bradley and a short jumper by Paige Griffin to make it 18-6 at the half.

Polk continued to fight in the second half, battling for loose balls and rebounds, though Hendersonville extended the margin until the final whistle.

Griffin had four points to lead Polk Middle, with Bradley, Gray and Caroline Taylor each scoring two points and Tali Thompson adding one.

Polk Middle returns to the court on Thursday, traveling to Flat Rock.
