Polk County Middle's Jill Brown

Polk County Middle kicked off the second half of its Blue Ridge Conference East Division schedule on a positive note Wednesday.

The Wolverines traveled to Apple Valley and delivered a 33-13 victory in an East Division girls basketball matchup. Polk improved to 6-2 overall, with Apple Valley falling to 3-5.

How it happened: Defense paved the way for the Wolverines, who held the Knights to no more than five points in any quarter.

Polk built a 20-6 halftime advantage, then pushed the margin in the second half. Apple Valley had two quarters, the second and fourth, where the Knights only scored two points.

Scoring: Cate Brown had a pair of 3-pointers and scored 14 points, with Raney Tallon adding 10.

Reeve Carroll finished with seven points, with Jill Brown adding two.

Next up: Polk Middle returns home on Monday to face Hendersonville Middle in a key East Division matchup. The Bearcats are undefeated and lead the division.
