Polk County Middle's Amiyah Waters had five points in Thursday's win

Polk County Middle held on Thursday to claim a 25-22 victory over Flat Rock Middle in Blue Ridge Conference girls basketball action in Flat Rock.

The Wolverines improved to 4-1 with the win Flat Rock dropped to 0-5.

How they did it: Polk Middle trailed 11-10 at halftime, but put together an 11-4 run in the third period to take the lead. Reeve Carroll and Amiyah Waters each scored four points in the period to help spark the surge.

Polk struggled at the foul line, finishing the game 4-for-20 according to postgame statistics, but held on to avoid the upset.

Scoring: Beija Olivari had six points to pace the Wolverines, with Waters finishing with five. Carroll, Cate Brown and Sofie Abrahamsen each scored four points, with Raney Tallon adding two.

Next up: Polk Middle concludes its three-game road stand on Monday, traveling to Brevard Middle for a 4:30 p.m. tipoff.
