Polk Middle girls battle Waynesville, but fall late to Mountaineers

Polk County Middle battled Waynesville Middle evenly for a half Tuesday before the Mountaineers pulled away in the second half for a 45-27 win in Blue Ridge Middle School Conference girls basketball action in Waynesville.

Polk Middle (1-6) trailed 20-18 at the half.

“I was extremely proud of our efforts,” said Polk Middle head coach Michelle Fagan. “We played hard the entire game and showed a lot of heart and intensity.”

Bre Kenan led the Wolverines with 15 points. Ansley Lynch added five, with Makayla Staley scoring four, Ava Marino two and Anna McFadden one.

Polk Middle returns home Thursday to host Brevard Middle at 4:30 p.m.
