Polk Middle checks Rugby offense, rallies in second half for win

Polk County Middle kept alive Wednesday its hopes for a share of a division title, rallying to defeat Rugby Middle 28-22 in a Blue Ridge Conference East Division clash at Polk Middle.

The Wolverines (5-4) overcame a scoreless second quarter to upend the Raiders (1-8) and remain one game behind Flat Rock and Hendersonville in the East Division standings. Polk Middle faces both of those teams in the final three games of the regular season.

Rugby held a 12-8 lead at halftime, but Polk Middle surged to a 19-18 lead by the end of the third period and checked the Raiders on four points in the final quarter to secure the win.

Lucy Tessnair led Polk Middle with nine points, with Kenzie Alm scoring seven. Preslie Bradley added six points while Camdyn Israel-Garrett had four.

Polk Middle will host Flat Rock Middle on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
