“They hustle on loose balls, push the ball up the court,” Polk County Middle head coach Seth Taylor said. “I was happy with a lot of the fast breaks we had. We had a lot of missed shots, but I’m happy with how they played. I’m very pleased with their effort.”
Polk County led 9-7 late in the second quarter when Myrakle Gary hit a short basket with 11 seconds left to push the advantage to 11-7 at halftime.
Kenzie Alm took control in the second half, scoring 10 of her 12 points after intermission. She scored on a putback, hit a short jumper and added a layup in the final seconds of the third quarter to build an 18-9 lead. Alm opened the fourth quarter with a layup at the 4:31 mark to make it 20-9, and Flat Rock never got closer than nine the rest of the game.
Gary finished with six points for the Wolverines, Emily Dotson added five points and Ryleigh Dill scored one.
“We dealt with a lot of sickness, illness and injuries, all types of stuff, but I’m very happy with who I had out there tonight,” Taylor said.
