Polk County earned its first win of the season Friday, holding off Patton to take a 36-30 win in girls junior varsity basketball action.
The Wolverines improved to 1-5 with the win.
Patton took an 11-7 lead at the end of the first period, but Polk County responded with a 9-1 run to grab a 16-12 advantage at the break.
The Wolverines pulled away to a 34-22 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but the Panthers answered with eight straight points, closing to within four with 2:14 remaining. But Jeri Allen scored on a putback with 1:28 to go and Polk held Patton scoreless the rest of the way to secure the win.
Cate Brown returned from an injury and had 20 points to lead Polk. Beija Olivari added eight points, with Allen scoring six and Raney Tallon adding two.
The win came following Tuesday’s 46-26 loss at Brevard. Tallon scored 17 points to lead the Wolverines, with Olivari adding eight and Hyunhee Jeong scoring one.
