Polk County earned its fifth consecutive win and moved into third place in the Western Highlands Conference, topping Owen 35-26 Friday in girls basketball action in Swannanoa.
The Wolverines (14-8, 6-5) also assured themselves of a first-round home game in the WHC tournament. Opening games of the WHC postseason tourney will be played at the higher seeds, with the semifinals and finals at Mountain Heritage.
Polk County built a 16-10 halftime lead over Owen (8-14, 4-8), then extended the margin to 28-17 entering the final quarter. The Wolverines held Owen to single digits in every period.

Kara Overholt had 13 points and seven steals to lead Polk County, which also got 10 points and nine rebounds from Sarah Phipps. Hayley Kropp added seven points, eight rebounds and eight steals, with Autumn Owen contributing seven rebounds as the Wolverines dominated the boards.
Polk County closes its regular-season home schedule on Tuesday, hosting Hendersonville.
