
Polk girls romp past Avery in regular-season finale
Olivia Overholt poured in 28 points to highlight a dominant all-around performance and lead Polk County to a 60-36 win Tuesday at Avery.
Overholt added six steals, seven rebounds, and eight assists as the Wolverines closed their regular season with a 14-7 record, including a 5-5 mark in the Western Highlands Conference.
Polk County finished third in the WHC and will host a first-round conference tournament game on Friday, unofficially against Madison. Game time and official WHC pairings will be announced Thursday.
The 14 wins and third-place finish are the best showing for Polk since the 2014-15 season, when the Wolverines had 16 regular-season wins and finished in third.
Overholt had 13 points in the first quarter and finished the first half with 18 as Polk built a 27-18 advantage at the intermission.
Marissa Twitty added 11 points and six rebounds, with Sara Muse scoring six points. Tori Thompson had five points, with Rachael Davis scoring four.
Alana Jergenson, Kaylin Jenkins and Emmie McDowell each had two points for Polk.
