Polk County head girls basketball coach Craig Culbreth has decided to retire from coaching, with his successor atop the girls basketball program to be named Monday night at the Polk County Board of Education meeting.
With the Asheville Citizen-Times noting that a new girls basketball coach would be hired at Monday’s meeting, Culbreth confirmed his decision to retire after 28 years in coaching.
“I felt like I didn’t have the fire any more,” Culbreth said. “People don’t realize how much time is involved in coaching.”

Having coached multiple sports in Polk County, Culbreth spent the past four seasons as the varsity girls basketball coach.
