Bailey Staton scored 40 points for the third consecutive game as Polk County defeated R-S Central 68-48 in Thursday’s non-conference girls basketball game.
Staton scored 15 of her 40 points in the fourth quarter as the Wolverines (12-0) pulled away from a 46-38 lead entering the final period. She connected on six 3-pointers in the game, continuing her scoring streak that has matched the school single-game record three straight times.
The Wolverines led 36-26 at halftime before R-S Central closed the gap in the third quarter.

Lai Flack led R-S Central (5-7) with 18 points. Alena Jimerson added 14 points after hustling over from Thursday’s indoor track and field meet at the Tryon International Equestrian Center, where she won the shot put.
Reeve Carroll finished with 10 points, five assists and five steals for Polk County. Charley Dusenbury and Sofie Abrahamsen each scored six, Amiyah Waters added four and Honesty Jackson finished with two.
Jackson led the Wolverines with 10 rebounds, while Dusenbury and Waters each grabbed five.
Polk County travels to Avery on Tuesday for a Western Highlands Conference game.
