Polk County girls enjoy successful Mountain Foothills debut

Polk County made a successful Mountain Foothills 7 Conference debut on Friday, pulling away in the final minutes to defeat Patton, 28-23, in Morganton.

The Wolverines (5-1, 1-0) were tied with the Panthers (0-9, 0-1) with 1:46 remaining. But Polk scored the final five points of the game to claim the victory.

Freshman Kylie Lewis played a key role in the win, scoring eight of her 12 points in the final quarter.

“She really stepped up at the end of the game,” said Polk County head coach Brandy Alm.

Olivia Overholt added 12 points for Polk, with Mia Bradley and Kinsley Huskey each scoring two.

Polk County is set to travel Monday to Rosman for a non-conference game before returning home Tuesday for a conference clash with Hendersonville.
