Top-ranked Mountain Heritage fashioned a 44-21 halftime lead Friday and went on to top Polk County, 60-38, in Western Highlands Conference girls basketball action at Polk.

The Cougars (19-0, 8-0) remain the top 2A team in the NCPreps/HS Media Basketball state poll. Mountain Heritage travels Tuesday to Avery in a game that will likely decide the WHC regular-season champion.

Polk County dropped to 6-12, 0-7 with the loss.

Tori Thompson had three 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 13 points to lead Polk County, with Olivia Overholt adding 11. Mariah Overholt had five points, with Kristen Hall scoring four and adding six rebounds, Emmie McDowell adding three and Marissa Twitty scoring two.

Polk County hits the road on Tuesday, traveling to Madison for another WHC meeting.
