Sara Muse scored 17 points Tuesday to lead Polk County to a 43-42 victory over Piedmont Community Charter in the Wolverines’ season opener in Gastonia.

Muse had 11 points in the first half as the Wolverines took a 20-18 lead at the break. She finished 7-of-9 at the foul line as Polk hit 14-of-20 from the stripe.

Tori Thompson and Marissa Twitty each added 10 points, with Olivia Overholt, Kristen Hall and Kaylin Jenkins each scoring two.

Jayden East and Taylor Prioleau each scored 16 points to pace Piedmont Charter.

Polk County opens its home schedule on Thursday as R-S Central visits for a non-conference clash.
