Mountain Heritage pulls away from pesky Polk for win

Polk County held a halftime lead Monday over fifth-ranked Mountain Heritage, but the Cougars exploded in the second half for a 71-55 win over the Wolverines in Burnsville.

Polk County (8-12, 3-7) built a 28-27 lead at intermission, but No. 5 Mountain Heritage (17-1, 9-0) rallied to remain undefeated in Western Highlands Conference play and clinch at least a tie for the WHC regular-season title.

Hayley Kropp had 33 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Wolverines, with Autumn Owen adding 12 points and four rebounds. Polk County also got four points from Ansley Lynch and two points each from Kendall Hall, Mariah Overholt and Bella Marino.

Polk County is back in action on Friday, hosting Owen.
