Mitchell raced to a 33-17 halftime lead Friday en route to a 62-41 victory over Polk County in Western Highlands Conference girls basketball action in Bakersville.
The Mountaineers (12-0, 9-0) took advantage of a Polk County team playing for the first time in two weeks, building the halftime edge and then unleashing a barrage of five 3-pointers in the third period to continue to pad the margin.
Polk County (1-5, 1-5) got four 3-pointers from Emmie McDowell for her 12 points, with Sara Muse adding nine points and Tori Thompson hitting two 3-pointers and scoring eight points.

The Wolverines hit seven 3-pointers in the game.
Marissa Twitty added six points, with Rachael Davis and Kaylin Jenkins each scoring two.
Polk County will return home Saturday to host Avery in a WHC game slated to start around 1:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the NFHS Network.
