Hendersonville JVs eke out two-point win over Polk County

A couple of late baskets proved the difference Friday as Hendersonville outlasted Polk County 41-39 in junior varsity girls basketball action at Polk.

The Wolverines (0-4) grabbed an early 9-2 advantage and led much of the first half, only to see Hendersonville rally and take a 20-16 edge at halftime.

The Bearcats led 26-20 late in the third period when Polk County fought back into the game, evening the score. The game remained tied into the final three minutes, when Hendersonville surged in front 39-35.

Cate Brown, who led Polk County with 28 points, scored with 1:17 left to make it 39-37. But the Wolverines couldn’t get the tying basket, and Hendersonville’s Sarenity Kerr hit a pait of free throws with 15 seconds left that ultimately settled the outcome. Brown scored with eight seconds remaining for the final margin.

Raney Tallon added nine points, with Jeri Allen scoring two.
