Fourth-quarter run pushes Brevard past Polk County

Brevard’s high-scoring fourth quarter Friday propelled the Blue Devils past Polk County, 68-46, in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference girls basketball matchup in Brevard.

The Blue Devils moved into a tie for third place with Polk County in the final regular-season game for both teams. Brevard ends its regular season at 9-14, 7-5, with Polk County at 12-10, 7-5.

How it happened: The Wolverines trailed just 41-35 entering the fourth quarter, but Brevard exploded for 27 points in the final eight minutes to pull away.

Liz Chapman and Amiyah Robinson each scored eight points in the fourth quarter to pace Brevard. Shaniya Cook led the Devils with 21 points, with Chapman scoring 20 and Robinson finishing with 13.

Scoring: Kylie Lewis had 15 points to lead Polk County, with Mia Bradley scoring 12 and Bailey Staton adding 10.

Jayden Duncan had five points, with Charley Dusenbury and Gavionna Carson each scoring two.

Next up: Polk County will host Patton on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference Basketball Tournament.
