Polk County's Jayden Duncan notched seven points in Friday's game

Flack drives R-S Central to upset of Polk girls

A’laila Flack’s career night Friday helped lead to Polk County’s undoing.

Flack poured in 35 points, leading R-S Central to a 63-56 upset of the Wolverines in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference matchup in Rutherfordton.

It proved quite a reversal for R-S Central (8-13, 4-5), which lost to Polk County (12-8, 6-3) by 40 points earlier this season. Flack had much to do with that, scoring from all points of the court to spark the Hilltoppers.

R-S hit eight 3-pointers in the game, with Flack notching three of those. That outside shooting helped the Hilltoppers build an 16-point halftime lead that grew to 20 points entering the final quarter and surpassed that early in the fourth period.

But the Wolverines finally found their offensive rhythm, whitttling that margin down to single digits with 30 points in the final quarter. Flack’s 5-of-6 effort down the stretch helped keep Polk from fully rallying.

Bailey Staton finished with 24 points, including six 3-pointers, that total matching the school record set in 1991 by Leah Justice. Charley Dusenbury and Kiera Littlejohn each added eight points.

Jayden Duncan and Kylie Lewis each recorded seven points, with Brianna Gray adding two.

Polk County returns to action on Friday, traveling to Chase.
