Undefeated East Rutherford showed Friday why the Cavaliers are climbing up the ranks in state 2A girls basketball.
The Cavaliers handed Polk County a 65-36 setback in a matchup of Mountain Foothills 7 Conference co-leaders in Bostic.
East Rutherford (14-0, 4-0) grabbed a 19-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, then extended that advantage to 34-17 at the half, taking control of the battle for first place in the MF7.
Olivia Overholt finished with 18 points to lead Polk County (8-3, 3-1), with Tori Thompson adding seven. Gavionna Carson and Kylie Lewis each had four points and Kinsley Huskey added three.
Polk County is slated to return to the court on Tuesday, traveling to Brevard for another conference matchup, weather permitting.
