Injuries and foul trouble helped stymie Polk County Middle on Monday as the Wolverines dropped a 24-17 decision at Brevard Middle.
The Wolverine girls dropped to 4-2 with the loss, with Brevard Middle improving to 3-3.
Polk Middle held an 11-8 halftime lead and entered the final quarter in a 14-14 deadlock, but the Wolverines lost guard Reeve Carroll to fouls and two other players to injuries, allowing Brevard to pull away in the closing minutes.
Cate Brown had seven points to lead Polk Middle, with Carroll adding five. Raney Tallon scored four points while Beija Olivari added one.
Polk Middle returns home Thursday to face Rugby Middle, with tipoff set for 4:30 p.m.
