Brevard Middle School dealt a significant blow to Polk County Middle’s conference title hopes Wednesday, defeating the visitors 33-20 and knocking Polk out of a tie for first place in the Blue Ridge Conference East Division.
Kenzie Alm led Polk County with 11 points, supported by Camdyn Israel-Garrett’s six points. Preslie Bradley added two points, and Emily Dotson contributed one.
The Wolverines held a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Blue Devils (6-5) limited Polk to just eight points in the final three quarters. Brevard’s Scarlett Conley, meanwhile, scored 20 points to drive Brevard to the win.

“We have to take better care of the ball,” said Polk Middle head coach Seth Taylor. “We had moments of speed with fast breaks, but we just couldn’t finish around the rim.”
Polk County (6-5) will host Hendersonville Middle on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in its final regular-season game.
