A fire alarm interrupted the first half, but it was Hendersonville’s third-quarter surge that stopped Polk County cold.
The Bearcats rallied from an early deficit and pulled away in the second half for a 41-31 Western Highlands Conference victory Tuesday night at Hendersonville High School.
Polk County (17-4, 6-4 WHC) came out strong, building a 13-9 lead through the opening quarter. But the Wolverines managed just four points in the second period as Hendersonville (17-3, 8-1) took a 20-17 halftime advantage.

A fire alarm halted action during the first half, and Polk never found its rhythm after play resumed.
The Bearcats broke the game open in the third quarter behind a barrage of 3-pointers. Vicky Flowers knocked down a pair of treys and Samiyah Smith added another as Hendersonville pushed its lead to 10 points heading into the final period.
Bailey Staton kept Polk County within striking distance, scoring 18 points to lead all scorers. Amiyah Waters added eight points, Honesty Jackson had three and Charley Dusenbury added two.
Hendersonville remains in a first-place tie with Avery County atop the conference standings at 8-1 while Polk County slips to fourth at 6-4. The Wolverines host Mitchell on Thursday and will celebrate Senior Night during the evening.
