Bearcat JV girls rally to upend Wolverines in overtime

Hendersonville rallied from an 11-point deficit Friday at the start of the fourth quarter to force overtime, then went on to top Polk County 50-43 in junior varsity girls basketball action in Hendersonville.

The Wolverines (3-3) held a 10-point edge with 5:40 remaining, but the Bearcats (2-1) put together a 15-4 run to take a 40-39 lead in the final seconds. Sofie Abrahamsen’s free throw with 4.9 seconds remaining evened the game and forced the extra period.

But Hendersonville checked Polk on just three points in overtime to secure the win.

Amiyah Waters led Polk County with 11 points, with Honesty Jackson scoring nine and Exziah Staley adding seven. Cate Brown and Beija Olivari each had six points while Abrahamsen finished with two.

Polk County will return to the court on January 15, hosting Landrum.
