Avery girls rally in final minutes to slip past Polk

Avery rallied from a 10-point deficit in the final quarter Thursday to upend Polk County, 47-43, in Western Highlands Conference play in Newland.

The Vikings (4-0, 2-0) scored the final 14 points of the game to spoil Polk County’s victory hopes. The Wolverines dropped to 1-3, 1-3 with the loss.

Sara Muse had 16 points, eight of those in the fourth quarter, to lead Polk County. Emmie McDowell and Marissa Twitty each had eight points, with Kristen Hall scoring six.

Kaylin Jenkins had three points and Alana Jergenson added two for Polk, which travels Friday to Mountain Heritage for another WHC matchup.
