Polk County’s bid for a team berth in the state golf tournament came up short Monday at the 3A West Regional at Pilot Knob Park Country Club in Pilot Mountain.
The Wolverines shot a 309 to finish sixth in the team standings, three spots behind the three qualifying teams. Pine Lake Prep claimed the regional title with a 238, followed by East Surry (263) and Union Academy (274). West Lincoln and East Rutherford tied for fourth at 277.
Charley Dusenbury led Polk County with a 98 on the par-70 course, finishing just one shot behind the final individual state qualifier. Reeve Carroll shot 104 and Addie Buss carded a 107 for the Wolverines.

The top three teams and top nine individuals not from those teams advance to the state tournament.
Pine Lake Prep’s Paisley Freda claimed individual medalist honors with a 71. Mountain Heritage’s Mallie Buchanan was second with a 78, while East Surry’s Sophie Harris and Pine Lake Prep’s Taylor Pike tied for third at 79. East Rutherford’s Saige Harris rounded out the top five with an 85.
Surry Central finished seventh with a 311, followed by North Stanly at 321.
