Wolverines grab fourth at Grassy Creek

Avery continued its strong season Thursday, winning the Western Highlands Conference girls golf match at Grassy Creek Country Club with a team score of 125.

Mitchell finished second with 156, followed by Owen at 165 and Polk County at 178. Mountain Heritage and Hendersonville did not field full teams but competed.

Sydney Kulhan of Avery claimed medalist honors with a 38, leading a dominant performance by the Vikings. Mallie Buchanan of Mountain Heritage placed second with 41, while Mitchell’s Charlee Sparks and Avery’s Molly Forbes tied for third at 42. Kendall Kulhan rounded out the top five for Avery with a 45.

Polk County was led by Addie Buss, who shot 53 to finish ninth overall. Chloe McGill added a 62 and Sofie Abrahamsen carded 63 for the Wolverines.

Polk County returns to action Friday when it hosts Brevard at Cleghorn Plantation. The match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
