Buss leads Polk County in season-opening golf match

Polk County opened its girls golf season Thursday with a fifth-place finish in a five-team match at Forest City Municipal Golf Course.

The Wolverines posted a team score of 163 on the par-36 course. Mountain View Prep won the match with a 108, edging East Rutherford by one stroke. Owen finished third at 153, followed by Hendersonville at 160.

Addie Buss led Polk County with a 48, good for ninth place overall. Chloe McGill shot a 56 to finish 15th, with Ryleigh Dill adding a 59 and finishing 18th. Those three rounds accounted for Polk County’s team score.

Sofie Abrahamsen finished 19th with a 60.

Polk County also got a promising start from Reeve Carroll, who was 1-over par through three holes. Carroll withdrew from the round in order to leave for Polk County’s volleyball match at R-S Central.

East Rutherford’s Saige Harris and Mountain View Prep’s Arley Jennings shared medalist honors, each shooting a 3-under-par 33. East Rutherford’s Kaitlyn Francis and Mountain View Prep’s Emma Bulman followed with even-par rounds of 36.

Polk County returns to competition Wednesday at Bright’s Creek.
