Polk County Volleyball Club’s 14U team celebrates its championship on Sunday in the Dixie Classic in Spartanburg.

Polk County Volleyball Club showed Sunday why the future continues to be bright for the sport in the area.

PCVC’s 14-and-under team captured the championship of the Dixie Classic in Spartanburg, going undefeated to finish atop a 31-team field competing at Upward Star Center.

PCVC 14U completed its perfect run through the Classic with a 25-17, 25-22 win over Xcel 14X Premier in the championship game. That straight-set win typified the team’s performance throughout the weekend, during which PCVC didn’t lose a set.

“As of last week, out of thousands and thousands of 14-year-old teams, our PCVC 14U team was ranked 294th in the nation,” said 14U head coach Donna Hall. “I have a feeling that will get even better on Tuesday when (Advanced Event Systems) updates their power rankings.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our team and supportive parents. They represent Polk well.”

PCVC’s 16U squad also had a successful weekend, going 5-1 and winning the Silver Bracket in its division.

The 16U team finished 3-0 in pool play on Saturday, then dropped a 25-10, 25-17 decision to Carolina Union Volleyball Club White, based in the Charlotte area, on Sunday morning. The 16U squad rebounded to win its final two matches and the Silver Bracket, handing CUVC Orange a 27-25, 25-21 defeat in its final game.

The PCVC 12U squad also competed in the Classic, finishing 2-3.

The Dixie Classic represents the final tournament of the season for PCVC.
