Polk County High School 2019 graduates Reese Alley and Ryan Heider have been named the Western Highlands Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
The two were recognized at Polk County’s Senior Awards Night on June 6.
Alley earned all-state honors and a spot in the East-West All-Star Game while helping lead Polk County’s girls soccer team to the state 1A quarterfinals. She also was part of Polk County’s 4×400-meter relay team that placed fourth in the state 2A/1A indoor track and field championships.
Heider capped an unbeaten two-year singles career at Polk County by winning the state 1A championship, the first player in school history to do so. He also qualified for the state indoor track and field championships in the shot put and earned all-conference honors while leading Polk County’s football team in receiving last fall.
Heider plans to attend the University of North Carolina while Alley will attend MIT, where she also plans to play soccer.
