CarolinaPreps.com has ranked Polk County 16th in its Red Zone Strength Top 25 Preseason Power Rankings of state 1A schools.

While still a member of the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference, the Wolverines will compete at the 1A level in the 2023 season after a successful mid-alignment appeal earlier this year.

Polk County will compete in 2023 under the direction of head coach Dustin Fry, who replaces longtime head coach Bruce Ollis. The Wolverines open the regular season on August 18 at home against Madison.

Mount Airy, Tarboro, Robbinsville, Murphy and Eastern Randolph hold the top five spots in the preseaosn poll.
