
Wolverines ranked seventh in state AP 1A football poll
Polk County is ranked seventh in this week’s Associated Press state 1A football poll.
The 3-0 Wolverines are one of five Western North Carolina teams in the poll, which is voted on by sports writers across the state.
Tarboro received 10 of 11 first-place votes in the poll and is ranked No. 1, with Murphy receiving the other first-place vote and ranking second.
East Surry, Mitchell and Holmes round out the top five, with Robbinsville at 6, then Polk County, followed by Princeton, Swain and Northampton.
The Wolverines are open this week before hosting East Henderson on Sept. 20.
