Polk County’s Tyler Staley awaits the start of a play during a drill at Thursday’s practice

Polk County High School’s athletic fields came to life Thursday as the fall sports season officially opened.

High school teams were allowed to begin practice, and the Wolverine football, volleyball and boys soccer teams took advantage with early-morning sessions.

For Polk County’s football program, the morning workout marked the first step in a journey that will conclude August 23 with the regular-season opener against Cherokee in G.M. Tennant Stadium.
