Newton-Conover relied on its size and speed advantage to hand Polk County a 44-12 setback Thursday in junior varsity football action in G.M. Tennant Stadium.
The Red Devils (1-0) hit a handful of big plays to key the win. But the Wolverines (0-1) had several of their own in demonstrating the team’s potential for the season.
Lorenzo Sanchez scored both of Polk County’s touchdowns, one on an 11-yard run late in the first quarter, the other on a 32-yard scamper in the third period.
Polk County is now off until Sept. 1, when the Wolverines will travel to Christ School.
