Dayvion Stinson (2) had a touchdown pass in Thursday's game for Polk County

Wolverine JVs fall to Cavaliers

East Rutherford’s mix of varsity and junior varsity players proved too much Thursday for Polk County’s junior varsity to overcome, the Wolverines dropping a 46-6 decision to the Cavaliers in G.M. Tennant Stadium.

East Rutherford isn’t playing a varsity schedule this season. Some of its returning varsity players transferred to other Rutherford County schools while the rest are part of the team playing a JV-only schedule this season.

The Cavaliers (5-4) scored twice in the first quarter, then added three more scores in the second period to take a 40-0 lead at halftime. East upped the advantage to 46-0 midway through the third period.

Polk County (0-5) kept fighting throughout the game, and the Wolverines’ effort was rewarded in the fourth quarter as Dayvion Stinson tossed a 52-yard touchdown pass to Bryson Jones on a halfback option play.

The Wolverines are set to conclude their schedule next Thursday, hosting Brevard for a 7 p.m. kickoff. That game will also air on NFHS Network.
