A three-game homestand and the return of a nearby rival highlight Polk County’s 2026 football schedule.
The Wolverines will kick off the regular season on Aug. 21, traveling to Chase. A long road trip to Newton-Conover will then follow on Aug. 28.
Polk County then returns for what should be an exciting home opener as Landrum visits G.M. Tennant Stadium on Sept. 4. The Cardinals return to the Wolverines’ slate following a two-year absence.

Patton will visit on Sept. 11, and Polk County will also celebrate Homecoming on that evening. The meeting between former conference foes will also conclude the Wolverines’ non-conference schedule.
Polk County will begin Western Highlands Conference play on Sept. 18 at Owen. The Wolverines will then host Mitchell (Sept. 25), Mountain Heritage (Oct. 2) and Madison (Oct. 9) before reaching their bye week on Oct. 16.
Polk will travel to Avery on Oct. 23 before concluding its regular season at Hendersonville on Oct. 30.
The Wolverines plan to hold a four-team scrimmage at home on Aug. 7, then travel to Chapman for a jamboree on Aug. 14. Opponents and times for each will be announced.
