Weaver earns second-team all-state recognition

Polk County’s Angus Weaver has received all-state recognition from Friday Nights in Carolina, a broadcaster covering high school football in North Carolina.

Weaver was named to the group’s second-team All-1AA squad, receiving recognition as a running back.

The Wolverine sophomore rushed for 1,017 yards on 138 carries in seven games, averaging 145 yards per game and 7.4 yards per carry. He had four straight games with 190 or more yards, including 230 yards on 34 carries in Polk County’s 30-27 playoff win at North Rowan.

Avery’s Ty Smith, the Western Highlands Conference Player of the Year, was a first-team selection as a wide receiver.
