
Thompson verbally commits to play football at Averett University
Polk County senior Trey Thompson has verbally committed to play football next season at Averett University.
Thompson made his decision on Sunday and informed Averett coaches, according to his father, Polk County assistant coach Jamie Thompson.
An honorable mention All-Western North Carolina selection, Thompson led Polk County this season with 29 tackles for loss. The defensive lineman recorded 78 total tackles with four sacks, two forced fumbles, two pass deflections and a blocked field goal. He led Polk County in tackles as a junior.
Thompson also started on Polk County’s offensive line.
Averett, a member of the Division III USA South Athletic Conference, finished 7-3 in 2019. The school is located in Danville, Va. Conference members include Brevard College.
