Polk County will open state 1A football playoff action on Friday at Murphy.
The Wolverines received the 23rd seed in the 1A West bracket and will travel to Cherokee County to face the 10th-seeded Bulldogs in the opening round.
Polk County ended its regular season Friday with a 4-6 record following a 49-21 loss at Brevard. Murphy enters with a 7-3 record, finishing third this season in the Smoky Mountain Conference.
The Bulldogs are led by senior running back Hunter Stalcup, anchoring a rushing game that averages almost 250 yards per outing this season.
The winner of Friday’s first-round game will face either Bishop McGuinness or South Stokes in the second round.
