Zach McCraw and Styler Blackwell each scored two touchdowns Thursday to lead Polk County Middle to a 28-7 victory at Bethel Middle.
The Wolverines built a 28-0 lead in winning their season opener in Blue Ridge Conference action.
McCraw put the Wolverines on top early, breaking through the Bethel defense and racing to the end zone on Polk’s first offensive play. McCraw also added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 Polk lead.
The score remained 8-0 until the third quarter, when Blackwell scampered into the end zone from 18 yards. Brody Wilkins tossed the two-point conversion to Sawyer Huff for a 16-0 lead.
A Bethel fumble at its 35-yard line set up Polk’s next score, that a 14-yard McCraw touchdown run. The two-point attempt failed, leaving the score at 22-0 late in the third period.
The Wolverines took advantage of another Blue Demon fumble, with McCraw recovering the loose ball. Blackwell then scored on a 20-yard play with 5:26 remaining to give Polk a 28-0 advantage.
Bethel scored late in the fourth quarter to account for the final margin.
Polk Middle will be at home on Thursday, hosting Brevard Middle for a 5 p.m. kickoff at Utz Field.
