Polk Middle blanks Canton in postseason clash

Polk County Middle closed its season Wednesday with a dominant 28-0 win over Canton Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference playoff game.

The Wolverines scored on four of their five possessions in the matchup at Pisgah Memorial Stadium to close their season with a 5-3 record.

Polk Middle recovered a fumble at its 30, then drove 70 yards to score. Lawson Carter tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Simpson late in the first quarter, and Kendall McIntyre added the extra point for an 8-0 lead.

The Wolverines then drove 55 yards to score on their second drive. Karlen McIntyre capped the drive with a 5-yard scoring run to give Polk a 14-0 lead.

A short punt gave Polk the ball at the Canton 27, and Kendall McIntyre ended a six-play drive with both a 1-yard touchdown run and the 2-point conversion to make it 22-0 at the half.

The Wolverines then concluded the scoring with a 45-yard drive in the third period. Karlen McIntyre opened the possession with a 21-yard run and ended it with a 20-yard scamper.

Canton Middle only reached the red zone once, that on its final drive, but the Wolverines stopped Canton inside the 10 as time ran out.
