Polk County’s football program recognized its award winners Wednesday at its year-end banquet.
Loreynzo Sanchez earned three awards, claiming Offensive Back MVP, Overall MVP and a two-year team captain honor. Sanchez rushed for 1,916 yards and 23 touchdowns on 284 carries this season, the second-highest single-season rushing total in school history. He also totaled 2,113 all-purpose yards.
Sanchez set multiple school records during the season, including most rushing attempts in a season (284), single-game rushing yards (343), single-game rushing touchdowns (8) and single-game touchdowns (8). His eight-touchdown performance tied a state record, making him the seventh player in North Carolina history to accomplish the feat.

Styler Blackwell earned Wide Receiver MVP and a team captain award. Blackwell finished with 36 catches for 711 yards and five touchdowns while adding 101 tackles on defense.
Zalen McCraw claimed Linebacker MVP and a two-year team captain honor. Lashi Miller won Defensive Line MVP and also earned a team captain award. Nolan Simpson took Defensive Back MVP, while Lucas Johnson earned Offensive Line MVP.
Mykah Hills won the Most Improved award, and Blake Anderson received the Mr. Wolverine honor.
Blackwell and Sanchez earned All-Western Highlands Conference honors. The Wolverines joined the Western Highlands Conference this season after previously competing in the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference.
