Late score helps Brevard Middle rally past Polk Middle

Brevard Middle scored a pair of second-half touchdowns Thursday to rally past Polk County Middle, 14-8, in a Blue Ridge Conference matchup in Brevard.

The Wolverines (2-1) took the lead in the first quarter, scoring on Kendall McIntyre’s 1-yard run. Lawson Carter tossed a 2-point conversion to Antonio Simpson to give Polk an 8-0 lead.

The margin stayed there until the final minute of the third period, when Brevard (3-0) scored with 22 seconds left, then converted the 2-point conversion to even the game at 8-8.

An interception on Polk’s next possession gave Brevard the ball at the Polk 27, and the Blue Devils were able to drive for the winning touchdown on a short run.

Polk Middle drove to the Brevard 19 on its final possession, but the drive stalled there, with a pass on fourth-and-12 falling incomplete.

The Wolverines return home Thursday to host Apple Valley at 5 p.m.
