Polk County’s defense delivered a handful of key stops Thursday as the junior varsity Wolverines earned a 7-0 win over East Henderson in Flat Rock.
Polk County (2-1) got a big game from Vincent Twitty, who had two interceptions and also a key punt return to set up the Wolverines’ lone score.
Polk forced an East Henderson punt on its first possession, which Twitty fielded at the Polk 47 and returned 45 yards. That set up Casey Beiler’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Mackus Simpson. Isaac Hernandez added the extra point to give the Wolverines a 7-0 lead with 5:03 left in the first period.
Neither team would score the rest of the way, with a handful of turnovers on each side. Twitty’s two interceptions thwarted drives as did a stop late in the second period when Obed Najera and Wyatt Deyton forced an East fumble inside the 20, with Nathan Mann recovering.
The Wolverines return to the road next Thursday, traveling to Hendersonville.
